The Desperados hired Rich Ingold as the team's offensive coordinator on Sept. 3, 2004, making him the third offensive coordinator in the team's short history. Ingold is no stranger to indoor football and the AFL, having served as offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Gladiators (1990), assistant coach with the Connecticut Coyotes (1995) and defensive coordinator with the New Jersey Gladiators (2001). He was the head coach of the Quad City Steamwheelers of af2 from 2002-04, leading the team to the playoffs twice - they were ineligible in 2002 - with records of 10-6 (2002 and 2004) and 14-2 (2003).

In 2004, the Steamwheelers made their second consecutive postseason appearance after finishing the regular season second in turnover margin (+18), third in points allowed (38.6 points allowed-per-game), sixth in total defense (234.8 yards allowed-per-game), eighth in scoring offense (50.1 points-per-game) and ninth in total offense (266.4 yards-per-game) and passing offense (249.3 yards-per-game).

In his second season at the Steamwheelers helm, Ingold guided the team to a 14-2 record, tied for the best in the league, and a trip to the playoffs. Ingold's high powered offensive attack led the league in scoring (57.2 points-per-game) and finished second in total offense with 289.7 yards-per-game. The offense was led by quarterback Tony Zimmerman, who led the league in touchdown passes (93) and finished second in passing yards (4,357) and tied for second in passer rating (118.0) to earn af2 Player of the Year Honors. He also became the first coach in indoor football history to have three receivers over the 1,000 receiving yard mark - Ira Gooch (1,465), Jeff Hewitt (1,338) and Tim Dodge (1,275).

Before becoming head coach at the af2 level, Ingold was the defensive coordinator of the New Jersey Gladiators in 2001. He took a break from coaching football to work on a professional career in sales from 1996-1998.

Prior to his brief career change, Ingold was an assistant coach with the Connecticut Coyotes in 1995. Ingold returned to his alma mater, Indiana (PA) University, to make his coaching debut in 1986 and remained for the next eight seasons. He coached quarterbacks (1986), receivers (1987-89) and quarterbacks, receivers and was the offensive play caller (1990-1994). His offense led the league in passing (218.0 yards per game) and finished second in scoring (39.8 points-per-game) and total offense (231.0 yards-per-game).

His professional playing career was limited to two seasons of AFL football. He made his professional debut quarterbacking the Washington Commandos in 1987 and finished his rookie season 149-of-235 for 1,726 yards, 29 touchdowns and five interceptions en route to first team All-AFL honors. In 1988, he led the Detroit Drive to the ArenaBowl championship by hitting 206-of-376 passes for 2,246 yards, 42 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Ingold, a former Division II All-America and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Player of the Year (1985) at Indiana (PA) University, was elected into IUP's Hall of Fame in 2003. He graduated from IUP with a degree in sociology. In the off-season, Ingold, born May 15, 1963, returns to Pittsburgh, PA, with his wife, Kristina and their two children, Alexandra and Richard Jr.
