AFL NOTES: Johnnie Harris is a seven-year AFL veteran who brings experience and notoriety to the Desperados secondary unit after signing with the team on October 29, 2007. For his career, Harris has piled up 299.5 tackles, 35 interceptions, 79 pass breakups, seven forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He is the only player in AFL history to register an interception in the first regular season game played for three different franchises (Tampa Bay, 1996; Orlando, 2005; and Grand Rapids, 2006). Harris earned an ArenaBowl championship with the Tampa Bay Storm in 1996, and in 1998, he was named the League's Defensive Player of the Year. He also brings five years of professional outdoor experience, playing in the NFL and CFL.

AFL 2007 (Philadelphia/Grand Rapids): Harris split the 2007 season with the Grand Rapids Rampage and the Philadelphia Soul. He began the season with the Soul, tallying 24.5 tackles, two interceptions and two pass breakups in six games until he was released by the team on April 18. He signed with the Rampage on April 23 where he finished the year as the team's leader in interceptions (five) and fourth on the team in tackles (32.5), while also adding four pass breakups and one fumble recovery in nine games. Harris opened the season with the Soul, making seven tackles at Nashville (3/4). He posted two tackles and an interception against Colorado (3/22). Harris made 2.5 tackles at New York (4/1) then tallied six tackles and an interception against Georgia (4/9). At Dallas (4/16) he totaled five tackles before his release on April 18. He signed with Grand Rapids on April 23 and made his Rampage debut at Los Angeles (4/28), contributing 3.5 tackles. He had a season-high two interceptions along with three tackles against Nashville (5/5). Harris made four tackles at San Jose (5/19) and 3.5 tackles against Colorado (5/26). He tied his season-high with seven tackles against Kansas City (6/2) while also adding an interception. For the second consecutive game, Harris made an interception - this time at Chicago (6/9) - while also adding two tackles. He had 4.5 tackles against Tampa Bay (6/16), and picked off one pass to go along with three tackles at Nashville (6/23).

AFL 2006 (Grand Rapids): Harris played in 15 games for the Rampage and tallied 80 tackles, six interceptions, 18 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Harris was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week in Week 4 and was named Defensive Player of the Game twice. Harris opened the season at Columbus (1/29) with 7.5 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups before making 7.5 tackles and one pass breakup against Tampa Bay (2/3). Against Los Angeles (2/12) he posted a season-high 10 tackles along with one interception and two pass breakups. Harris made four tackles while recording his second-straight game with an interception and one pass breakup against San Jose (2/19). He extended his interception streak to three games at Nashville (2/25) while also adding three tackles. Harris made his first sack of the season along with six tackles and one pass breakup at Las Vegas (3/10). Against Colorado (4/8) Harris tallied seven tackles and one pass breakup before making 5.5 tackles at Dallas (4/15). He made his fifth interception of the season against Arizona (4/23) while also adding 4.5 tackles and one pass breakup. Harris tallied one interception, one tackle and three pass breakups against Nashville (4/29). He wrapped up the season against Chicago (5/13) with 3.5 tackles and two pass breakups.

AFL 2005 (Orlando): Harris returned to the AFL for the first time since 1998 after a five-year NFL career and played with the Orlando Predators. He saw action in eight games and recorded 42 tackles, four interceptions and four pass breakups. Harris made his debut against Austin (3/25) with five tackles and one interception. He posted 4.5 tackles and a season-high two pass breakups against Los Angeles (4/3). At Tampa Bay (4/9) Harris made one interception and three tackles. He tallied five tackles against New York (4/15) before posting five tackles, one interception and one pass breakup against Georgia (4/22). At Philadelphia (4/30) Harris tallied five tackles and an interception. At New York Harris contributed 3.5 tackles and one pass breakup before finishing up the year at Georgia (6/4) with a season-high 8.5 tackles and one pass breakup.

AFL 1998 (Tampa Bay): Harris was named AFL Defensive Player of the Year and earned AFL All-Arena First Team honors after leading the AFL in interceptions (11) and pass breakups (33) while tallying 62.5 tackles and three forced fumbles in 13 games. His 33 pass breakups were the fourth-most in league history at the time. Harris made 4.5 tackles at San Jose (5/1) before posting seven tackles against Nashville (5/9). He made his first interception of the season against Houston (5/16) along with 2.5 tackles. Harris made his first start of the season at Florida (5/23) to the tune of 4.5 tackles. In his second start of the season at New Jersey (5/3) he made 5.5 tackles, one interception and a forced fumble. Against New York (6/6) Harris made two interceptions one forced fumble and five tackles. He had a season-high three interceptions at Orlando (6/12) along with three tackles. Harris contributed six tackles against Albany (6/20). He had his third multi-interception game with two picks at Houston (7/3). Against Iowa (7/25) Harris made seven tackles and forced a fumble. He had his fourth multi-interception game of the season at Grand Rapids (8/1) with two while adding 6.5 tackles and one tackle for loss.

AFL 1997 (Tampa Bay): Harris began the season with the Tampa Bay Storm playing in just five games to finish fifth on the team with 26.5 stops and second in pass breakups (seven) while adding one interception before heading to the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. At Arizona (5/4) Harris had 5.5 tackles to open the season before contributing 4.5 tackles and an interception against Florida (5/10). He had 3.5 tackles against Orlando (5/17) and 4.5 tackles at Nashville (5/23). In his last game of the season against Milwaukee (5/30) Harris made a season-high 8.5 tackles.

AFL 1996 (Tampa Bay): Harris entered the AFL with the Tampa Bay Storm and posted six interceptions along with 40.5 tackles, 11 pass breakups and two fumble recoveries in just seven games played. Harris made his AFL debut in Week 8 at Memphis (6/22) and contributed four tackles before again posting four tackles against Charlotte (6/29). At Florida (7/6) and against Albany (7/12) he registered 7.5 tackles while also adding an interception against the Firebirds. At Orlando (7/19) Harris made 6.5 tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception. He had an interception for the third-straight game against Arizona (7/27) while also adding six tackles before closing out the season with two interceptions at Texas (8/2) along with five tackles.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 2003 - Harris played in 13 games with the New York Giants and recorded 53 total tackles, three breakups, two interceptions and one forced fumble. 2002 - He joined the New York Giants and played nine regular season games and the NFC Wild Card game making 11 total tackles, one pass breakup and one interception. He also added nine special teams tackles. 2001 - Harris played in 16 regular season games with five starts at safety for the Oakland Raiders. He completed the season with 38 total tackles, a half-sack, a pass breakup and 10 special teams tackles. 2000 - Harris played in 15 regular season games with two starts for the Raiders and saw action as reserve in two postseason games. He finished the season with 33 tackles, one forced fumble and four pass breakups with eight special teams tackles. 1999 - Harris was on the practice squad with the Oakland Raiders for the first 12 weeks of the season before being activated for the final four games but did not record any statistics. 1997 - He was a CFL All-Star and won a Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts.

COLLEGE: Harris played college football at both San Bernardino Community College (CA) and Mississippi State University. Harris started all 12 games as a senior, helping guide MSU to a Peach Bowl berth and posted 63 tackles that season to lead all defensive backs. Harris started 10 games as a junior and 22 of a possible 23 at Mississippi State. He registered 60 tackles with a pair of interceptions as a freshman at San Bernardino.

PERSONAL: Harris was a two-year starter at cornerback for Diamond Bar High School in Calif. He played quarterback and defensive back at Martin Luther King High School in Chicago, where he earned All-City and All-Conference as a senior.
