AFL NOTES: Winfield Garnett was acquired via trade with the Columbus Destroyers on Feb. 25 for FB/LB Peter Lazare-Saunders. A four-year AFL veteran, Garnett has spent time with Philadelphia (2004-05), Grand Rapids (2006-07) and went to training camp with Columbus in 2008 before his trade to Dallas. In his career he has tallied 58.0 tackles, 12.0 sacks and 15.0 tackles for loss.

AFL 2007 (Grand Rapids): Garnett played 16 games for the Grand Rapids Rampage and was named to the AFL's All-Ironman Team after posting 15.0 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss totaling 23 yards, 3.5 sacks and forced one fumble. On offense, he caught one pass for two yards. Garnett assisted on three tackles and a half sack for a loss of two yards against Las Vegas (3/8). He assisted on two tackles against Philadelphia (3/15) before making one unassisted tackle at Utah (3/23). Garnett was credited with a season-high 2.0 tackles against New York (4/7). He posted one solo tackle at Kansas City (4/14). (May 5 vs. Nashville) Garnett eclipsed the 50-tackle mark for his career in his 48th game played when recorded 1.5 tackles against Nashville (5/5) while also adding a sack for a loss of seven yards. He made 1.5 tackles at Columbus (5/11). (May 19 at San Jose) Garnett played in his 50th career AFL game at San Jose (5/19) and had one solo tackle and one sack for a loss of five yards. He (May 26 vs. Colorado) made one solo tackle against Colorado (5/26) before posting 1.5 tackles against Kansas City (6/2). Garnett was credited with one-solo tackle at Chicago (6/9). He made one-solo tackle and one sack for a loss of eight yards at Nashville (6/23).

AFL 2006 (Grand Rapids): Garnett played in 13 games with the Rampage and posted career highs with 18.0 tackles and four sacks. He made three tackles against Tampa Bay (2/3). Garnett posted a season-high two sacks and a season-high 3.5 tackles against Los Angeles (2/12). He had one tackle and one sack against San Jose (2/19). Sutton registered one sack and 1.5 tackles Utah (3/16). At Chicago (3/26) and against Colorado (4/8) he had two tackles. At Austin (5/7) Garnett made 2.5 tackles.

AFL 2005 (Philadelphia): Garnett played in 16 games for the Soul and finished second among lineman with 12.5 tackles while also contributing 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and forced two fumbles. He opened the season at Austin (1/30) with 2.5 tackles. Garnett tallied one tackle against Nashville (2/13) and at New Orleans (2/20). He recorded a half sack and a half tackle against New York (3/6). Garnett made 1.5 tackles and one sack against Tampa Bay (3/20). He had 2.5 tackles against Grand Rapids (3/26). At Colorado (4/10) Garnett made one tackle.

AFL 2004 (Philadelphia): Garnett played 10 games in his first AFL season with the Soul, tallying 12.5 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks. He made his AFL debut against Colorado (3/21) but did not record any stats. Garnett registered a half tackle and a half sack at Austin (3/28). At Carolina (4/17) he had one tackle before making 1.5 tackles against New York (4/24). Garnett made two tackles against Las Vegas (5/8). He had a season-high three tackles against Carolina (5/15). At San Jose (5/22) Garnett contributed 2.5 tackles. He closed out the season at New York (5/30) with 1.5 tackles.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Garnett spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL. 2003 - Garnett was out of football in 2003. 2002 - Garnett was placed on the Vikings' Reserve/Injured list on August 26 with a hamstring injury and missed the entire 2002 season. 2001 - Garnett signed with the Vikings on February 14 and was allocated to NFL Europe by the team where he played for the Amsterdam Admirals and was to the All-NFL Europa Team when he finished third in the league with eight sacks. He made the Vikings active roster upon his return and played in 12 games with two starts to tally 12 tackles, two sacks and one pass breakup. 2000 - Garnett was out of football. 1999 - Garnett originally signed with Seattle on July 8 but was released at the end of training camp.

COLLEGE: Garnett started in 25-of-42 games for Ohio State University (1994-97). He served as team captain his senior season. Garnett was credited with a sack in the 1998 Sugar Bowl against Florida State University.

PERSONAL: Garnett prepped at Thornton Township (Harvey, Ill.) H.S. where he was a four-sport athlete; basketball, football, track and wrestling. He amassed a 32-1 record as a junior in wrestling. Garnett was an All-America and All-State football selection in 1993.
