AFL NOTES: Jeremy Calahan looks to continue to add solid depth in the trenches of the Desperados offensive and defensive lines in 2008 in his second season in the league. He signed with the Dallas Desperados on Oct. 23, 2006, seeing time in nine games with five starts as a rookie in 2007. Calahan returned to the Lone Star State after a stand-out prep career in Pflugerville and a four-year collegiate career at Rice. His cousin, and Desperados quarterback, Clint Dolezel, has helped Calahan's transition from the NFL to the AFL.
AFL 2007 (Dallas): Calahan played in eight regular season games - with five starts - and one playoff game for the Desperados. He appeared in his first AFL game against Nashville (4/27) as a reserve defensive tackle but did not log any stats. Calahan made his first career start at Utah (5/4) playing guard on the offensive line for an injured Devin Wyman. Against Chicago (5/14) Calahan started his second consecutive game at guard and did not give up a sack for the second straight game. He returned to a reserve role at Columbus (5/26), seeing time on both the offensive and defensive lines. Calahan made his third start of the season at guard at Philadelphia (6/1) and did not allow a sack while also playing in the defensive line rotation. Against New Orleans (6/9) he started at guard but was moved to center after Terrance Dotsy was injured in the fourth quarter. In his fifth start of the season at guard against New York (6/16), Calahan did not allow a sack and also contributed his first career tackle on the defensive line. He played on the defensive line and on special teams at Colorado (6/25). Calahan assisted on a tackle in the Divisional Playoff Game against Columbus (7/7).
OTHER PRO EXPERIENCE: 2006 - Calahan spent the entire offseason with the St. Louis Rams rehabbing the knee injury he suffered in the 2005 season finale. He returned to camp with the Rams, posting four tackles in preseason action before being released on the final cut. 2005 - Calahan signed with the Rams as a rookie free agent following the NFL Draft. He spent most of his rookie season on the Rams practice squad before signing to their active roster Dec. 13. He made his NFL debut in the season finale at Dallas (1/1/06), playing on defense and special teams before being forced from the game with a broken bone in his knee.
COLLEGE: Calahan started 32 of his final 34 games for the Rice Owls finishing his collegiate career with 155 tackles, 10.5 sacks, two pass breakups and a forced fumble. He started all 11 games as a senior, posting 40 stops, four sacks and two pass breakups. Calahan started all but one game as a junior and recorded 49 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble. As a sophomore, he finished with 37 tackles. As a true freshman, Calahan started three-of-12 games and tallied 29 tackles and a sack.
PERSONAL: Calahan was a three-year starter at Pflugerville, Texas, High School, earning first-team all-district honors as a junior and senior. He earned academic all-state and three academic all-district honors, helping his team to a 10-1 record and district title as a junior. His cousin, Dan Campbell, played tight end for the Dallas Cowboys for two years and is currently with the Detroit Lions. In 2007, Calahan helped host children participating in The Salvation Army's afterschool program to an afternoon at SpeedZone, a local amusement park, as part of the Desperados Impact Player Program - an annual outreach initiative that provides positive role models to at-risk youth. |
