AFL NOTES: Josh Bush brings electric return ability to the Desperados kickoff return team as well as speed to add depth to the receiving corps. He is a proven threat in the return game, having returned 98 kickoffs for 1,945 yards (19.8 avg.) with four touchdowns in his career. Bush is expected to compete for kickoff return duties, as well as time in the receivers rotation after signing with Dallas on November 13, 2007.
AFL 2007 (Columbus): Bush finished 15th in the AFL in kickoff returns, averaging 19.4 yards-per-return with two returns for touchdowns. He finished third for the Destroyers with 48 receptions and fourth with 461 receiving yards with six touchdowns. He added 19 yards and two touchdowns on four carries. As a kick returner, he had a career-year with 38 kickoffs returned for 761 yards, good for second on the team. Bush carried the ball once for nine yards, returned three kickoffs for 79 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown, at Nashville (3/1). At New Orleans (3/9) he made four receptions for 27 yards and returned three kickoffs for 50 yards. Bush caught a season-high six passes for 34 yards and returned two kickoffs for 70 yards and one touchdown against Chicago (3/24). He returned four kickoffs for a season-high 113 yards, including a 58-yard return for a touchdown, and caught two passes for 30 yards and one touchdown against Georgia (3/30). At Dallas (4/5) Bush hauled in two passes for 32 yards and one touchdown and returned one kickoff for 19 yards. He caught three passes for 46 yards and one touchdown and returned one kickoff for 18 yards against Philadelphia (4/23). At Tampa Bay (4/29) Bush made three receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown and returned two kickoffs for 42 yards. He caught four passes for 25 yards and one touchdown against New York (5/4). Bush surpassed the 200 reception mark for his career at Colorado (5/18) after posting six catches for 41 yards while also returning three kickoffs for 34 yards. He missed the next two games against Dallas (5/26) and at Georgia (6/2) with an ankle injury, but returned to action against Kansas City (6/8) and carried the ball once for five yards, caught four passes for 30 yards and returned four kickoffs for 91 yards. At Philadelphia (6/16) he made 3.5 tackles and returned six kickoffs for 99 yards. At New York (6/23) Bush caught six passes for 87 yards and one touchdown - the touchdown marked the 40th touchdown reception for his career - carried the ball twice for five yards with two touchdowns and returned four kickoffs for 84 yards. In a Wild Card playoff game at Tampa Bay (6/30), he caught two passes for 34 yards and returned six kickoffs for 49 yards. In the Divisional Playoff Game at Dallas (7/7), Bush caught four passes for 39 yards, rushed once for 11 yards, returned three kickoffs for 51 yards and made a net recovery and returned it for a touchdown. In the Conference Championship Game at Georgia (7/14), he hauled in five passes for 42 yards, returned five kickoffs for 113 yards and made three tackles on special teams. In Arena Bowl XXI against San Jose (7/29), Bush made two receptions for nine yards and returned five kickoffs for 88 yards.
AFL 2006 (Grand Rapids): Bush finished third among Rampage receivers in receptions (65), yards (681) and touchdowns (13). He returned 30 kickoffs for 551 yards, finished second on the Rampage with 51 tackles and tied for second with three interceptions. At Columbus (1/29) Bush caught three passes for 56 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown grab at the end of the first half, and also made five tackles and returned two kickoffs for 33 yards. Against Tampa Bay (2/3) he posted a career-high 8.5 tackles, caught a 23-yard touchdown pass and corralled a five-yard net recovery for a touchdown as he was named Ironman of the Game. Bush returned to action off Reserve/Injured at Nashville (2/25) and led the team with three tackles. At Colorado (3/5) he recorded his first career interception, made four stops and had five grabs for 45 yards. Bush hauled in three passes for 55 yards and one touchdown, returned four kickoffs for 30 yards and made five tackles at Las Vegas (3/10). Bush was named Ironman and Defensive Player of the Game after posting 7.5 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception against Utah (3/16), while he also caught three touchdowns on offense. At Chicago (3/26) he had five receptions for 34 yards and one touchdown along with four tackles. Bush caught three passes for 55 yards and two touchdowns (20, 26) and returned two kickoffs for 20 yards at New York (4/1). He had a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown and a 52-yard kickoff return for a score, caught five passes for 34 yards and returned three kickoffs for 83 yards against Colorado (4/8). At Dallas (4/15) Bush made four catches for 30 yards and returned two kickoffs for 31 yards. He was named Ironman of the Game against Arizona (4/23) after catching four passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns on offense and made 3.5 stops on defense. Bush made six receptions for 44 yards, had five kickoff returns for 109 yards, including one for 55 yards, and posted 3.5 tackles against Nashville (4/29). He caught eight passes for 69 yards and one touchdown and returned three kickoffs for 53 yards at Austin (5/7). Bush caught a career-high 13 passes for a season-high 101 yards and one touchdown while also returning two kickoffs for 13 yards and made three tackles and one pass breakup against Chicago (5/13).
AFL 2005 (Grand Rapids): Bush finished third on the Grand Rapids Rampage with 46 receptions for 604 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also finished second with 20 kickoff returns for 409 yards. Bush tallied 21 tackles, two breakups and a forced fumble on defense. He had a season-best 91 yards with a touchdown on six catches in the season opener against Arizona (1/28). He had consecutive two-touchdown games at Tampa Bay (3/6) and against Chicago (3/13). He had a season-best eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown at Georgia (4/15).
AFL 2004 (Grand Rapids): As a rookie, Bush led the Rampage in receiving yards (714), tied for the lead in touchdowns (10) and was second in receptions (54). He also returned 11 kickoffs 224 yards with a 57-yard return for a score. He finished third on the defense with 33.5 tackles along with seven breakups. He caught one pass for six yards in his AFL debut at Chicago (2/8). Bush logged his first career scores with two touchdowns on seven catches at Dallas (3/6). He had a season-best 101 yards with a season-high tying two touchdowns on three catches at Detroit (4/10).
COLLEGE: Bush finished third in Western Michigan history with 150 receptions, fourth in receiving yards with 1,899 and eighth in touchdown catches with 12. Bush left as the school's all-time record holder in punt return yardage with 786. In 2001, he was named Second-Team All-MAC and was named Offensive MVP for Western Michigan.
PERSONAL: Bush resides in Miami, Fla. during the offseason. He attended Miami Northwestern High School where he earned All-Dade County Honorable Mention honors as well as being selected for the Broward-Dade All-Star Game after collecting 21 passes for 315 yards in his senior season. Bush was also a member of the 1995 state 6A state title team. He was a family studies major at Western Michigan.
