AFL NOTES: Cyron Brown was acquired during free agency for the 2008 season with hopes of providing a solid rotation along the offensive and defensive lines for the Dallas Desperados. The six-year AFL veteran has made 77.5 tackles and 10.0 sacks in his career with the Colorado Crush, Philadelphia Soul and Kansas City Brigade.
AFL 2007 (Kansas City): Brown finished the season with six tackles and one sack, defensively, while also adding three receptions for 17 yards and one touchdown for Kansas City. He had one reception for eight yards against Chicago (3/4). Brown made one tackle on defense while also adding a season-high two receptions for nine yards and one touchdown at Colorado (3/10). He tallied a season-best 3.5 tackles at Las Vegas (4/8) before registering 1.5 tackles against Grand Rapids (4/14). He had a sack and 1.5 tackles at Columbus (6/8).
AFL 2006 (Philadelphia/Kansas City): He made seven tackles and 1.5 sacks with the Soul before he was traded on March 20 to Kansas City along with Aaron Boone for Steve Smith. Brown appeared in seven of the remaining eight games for the Brigade, starting two, and finished second on the team with a career-high three sacks and third with three tackles for loss while also adding eight tackles and one pass breakup. Between the Brigade and Soul, Brown tied for 10th in the AFL in sacks (4.5) and tied for 12th in combined tackles for loss (6.0). He also caught one pass for nine yards.
AFL 2005 (Philadelhpia): Brown finished with a career-high 24.5 tackles while also registering 1.5 sacks, a career-best five pass breakups and one forced fumble in all 16 regular season games for the Soul. At Chicago (2/6) Brown made a season-best 3.5 tackles and one pass breakup. He had one tackle and one pass breakup at New Orleans (2/20). Brown made a half sack and two tackles against New York (3/6). At San Jose (3/11) he had two tackles. Brown logged three tackles and one pass breakup against Grand Rapids (3/26). He had 2.5 tackles at Columbus (4/3). Brown had one tackle and one pass breakup at Colorado (4/10). At New York (4/24) he tallied two tackles and one sack. Brown made two tackles against Columbus (5/15).
AFL 2004 (Tampa Bay/Philadelphia): Brown began the year with Tampa Bay, and had 3.5 tackles and one sack before he was acquired by the Soul in a midseason trade. He finished the year in Philadelphia with 10 tackles. Brown opened the season with the Storm, posting one tackle and one sack against Orlando (2/8). At Austin (2/22) he had 1.5 tackles before making one tackle at New Orleans (3/7) in his final game with the Storm. Brown made his debut with the Soul against Colorado (3/21) to the tune of one tackle. He made 1.5 tackles at Austin (3/28) and against Dallas (4/4). At Carolina (4/17) Brown made two tackles. He had one tackle at Colorado (5/1) and against Las Vegas (5/8) before making two tackles against Carolina (5/15).
AFL 2003 (Colorado): He played in all 16 regular season games for the Colorado Crush, posting 16.5 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery. Brown had three tackles in the season-opener against Georgia (2/2). He had three tackles against Los Angeles (2/16). At Indiana (3/2) he made two tackles. Brown recorded the first sack of his career at Arizona (3/16) along with one tackle before making another sack and one tackle at New York (3/30). He closed out the season against Arizona (5/18) with 2.5 tackles.
OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Brown was a member of the Denver Broncos from 1998-2002, rotating from the practice squad to the active roster. He played in seven NFL games and tallied 10 tackles (five solo) in 1999. Brown was part of the Broncos 1998 Super Bowl championship team with fellow Arena Footballers Neil Smith (co-owner, Kansas City Brigade), John Elway (owner, Colorado Crush) and Marcus Nash (Dallas Desperados).
COLLEGE: He played his first three years at the University of Illinois. In 1997, Brown transferred to Western Illinois. In 1994, he won the Breese Award as the most improved defensive player after he finished his senior season second on the team with 107 tackles. In his career, Brown recorded 14 sacks, 39 tackles for losses, seven pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one blocked punt. He was named to the 1997 Division I-AA All-America second team defense, and was one of 16 finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award as the best I-AA defensive player.
PERSONAL: Brown was a standout performer at Albert G. Lane Tech High School in Chicago, Ill. He played defensive end and tight end to earn All-America honors as a senior. He also earned all-city honors in basketball as a senior. |
