AFL NOTES: Anthony Armstrong enters his second year in the AFL looking to build off a rookie campaign which saw him post 10 catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns in four games played during the 2007 season. Armstrong signed with Dallas in the middle of the team's 2007 training camp. He was released at the end and immediateoy signed to the practice squad. He was activated March 25. Armstrong gained one year of indoor experience with the Odessa Roughnecks of the Intense Football League in 2006 prior to arriving in Dallas.
AFL 2007 (Dallas): Armstrong began the season on Dallas's practice squad before being signed to the active roster on March 25. He was inactive at Orlando (3/26) before making his AFL debut against Austin (3/31) where, in a special teams role, he recovered an onside kick and returned it 40 yards for the game-winning score. Armstrong was inactive the next two games against Columbus (4/5) and against Philadelphia (4/16). He made his first receptions of the season at Georgia (4/21) to the tune of eight catches for 77 yards and one touchdown. Armstrong had two receptions for 49 yards including a long catch of 34 yards that went for a touchdown against Nashville (4/21). He was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a hamstring injury on May 2 and missed the remainder of the season.
OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 2006 - Armstrong played in 13 games for the Odessa Roughnecks of the Intense Football League and finished third on the team with 55 catches for 760 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was the club's second leading rusher, carrying the ball four times for 39 yards and three touchdowns and returned seven kickoffs for 166 yards and a touchdown. He added eight tackles, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery on defense.
COLLEGE: Armstrong finished his collegiate career as West Texas A&M's fourth leading receiver with 145 receptions for 1,768 yards - good for sixth in team record books. As a senior, he was named to the All-Lone Star Conference Second-Team after leading all WTAMU receivers with 54 catches for 607 yards and four touchdowns. Armstrong started all 11 games as a junior and was named the LSC South Receiver of the Year and earned First-Team All-LSC South honors after hauling in 54 passes for 740 yards and four touchdowns. He set a conference and school record with a 100-yard kickoff return against Eastern New Mexico in the Wagon Wheel Game. He played in 10 games as a sophomore and recorded 24 catches for 256 yards. As a freshman, he saw time in 10 games and had 165 yards and a touchdown on 13 receptions.
PERSONAL: Armstrong was named to the All-Metrocrest second-team as a standout receiver at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas, after posting 11 receptions for 250 yards and three touchdowns as a senior. He also lettered two times for Newman Smith's track and field team while competing in the 100-meter dash. Armstrong earned his degree in marketing from WTAMU in December, 2005. Since joining the Desperados roster, Armstrong has become an active participant in the team's community outreach programs. During the season, Armstrong joined teammates and U.S. Army personnel in hosting the first annual Desperados U.S. Army Passing Clinic - a one-day teaching clinic for local high school football players. Armstrong also teamed up with the U.S. Army during the off-season and participated in the AFL / U.S. Army "Be Strong for Life" Tour which traveled to different North Texas high schools encouraging students to be both physically and academically strong.
