Adriel Fenton is entering his third season as the Dallas Desperados defensive quality control coach. In his role with the Desperados, Fenton assists with special teams as well as breaking down and evaluating practice and game film.
In 2007, Fenton assisted a Desperado defense that held opposing quarterbacks to the second-lowest completion percentage (59.0), intercepted the second-most passes (23), tied for the fourth-best run defense (2.0 rush avg.) and allowed 706 total points - good for the seventh-lowest in the league. The defense was led by the 2007 U.S. Army Ironman of the year Will Pettis. Defensively, he notched 59.5 tackles, eight pass breakups, three interceptions, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
With Fenton's help, the 2006 Desperados defense was the stingiest in the league, allowing just 44.4 points-per-game. They intercepted 24 passes, forced 18 fumbles, posted 18 sacks and notched four safeties on the year. The defense also forced stops on 48% of their opponents' drives through the final 11 games of the season. Fenton's work with the defense also helped produce the AFL's Lineman of the year in Colston Weatherington.
Fenton began his coaching career as the defensive backs coach at Detroit Mumford High School in 1996, and the following year, he became the defensive coordinator for the varsity team. Fenton held this position for the next three seasons (1997-2000), continuing to coach the secondary directly. His aggressive style of defense helped the team reach the city playoffs in 1998.
A native of Detroit and a graduate of Wayne State University with a degree in criminal justice, Fenton and his wife Vanessa now reside in Grand Prairie, Texas.
